Finishing Your First Page

Finally, we will complete our first page by adding some additional features such as:

  1. Add a table

The "table" command is a good way to organize masses of information in a clear, legible format on your page. You might use a table with the borders visible. Or you might use a table with borders invisible on the screen to organize columns and develop special effects. Now, we'll create a table to add some additional information.

Tables can be exasperating.  Composer makes automatic adjustments in the table when you save it. The table you see on the browser screen is not always what you intended. You will need to experiment with different settings to get the result you want. For example, to force certain sizes for the table and cells, use the % settings on the dialogue box.

  2. Add bulleted or numbered lists

Another simple way to add visual interest and clarity to your page is to put some text into a list with bullets or numbers. You must list 5 reasons for liking and 5 reasons for disliking HOM in the remaining cells of your table. Decide whether you want to use the bulleted list or numbered list. Then go to appropriate list bellow and follow the directions:

    Bulleted lists:

    Numbered lists:

  3. Set up a bookmark

A bookmark is just like a hyperlink -- but instead of sending people to another Web page, you are sending them to another location on the same page. It's a fast way to move people around, e.g., to return to the top or to send them quickly to another location on the same page.

Type the following sentence into your page:

The following is my art work done in Paint:

Then, after pressing Enter twice to create space and go to the next line, start the Paint application and create some kind of artistic image of your choice. It can be anything as long as it is not offending anybody. Please refrain from creating any obscene and/or sexualy oriented material - it will count against you. Save the image in the appropriate folder (H:/Mr. Babich/images) with your name as the name of the file. Then insert the file in your page underneath the sentence you just typed.

Then, you need to set up the bookmark -- the place you want to send people to -- your favorite pic in this case.

Second, set up the hyperlink that people will click to go to the bookmark.

Go back to the space you left blank between two horizontal lines you inserted earlier.
    Type the following text:

If you want to skip my school info, click here to go to my art.

Now, do exactly the same thing, except, you will place another bookmark at the very top of the page (name it "top"), and you will type the following sentence at the very bottom of your page bellow your art:

                Go back to top.

Then highlight the word "top" you just typed and link it to the anchor "top". Test if your links to anchors work by clicking on the "Browse" button to view your page in the Internet browser.

  4. View Page Source (HTML Source)

To view the HTML source code, go to "View" and then click on "View HTML".

After you have finished with this final part, let me know - I will see your work by going through your Web page. Make sure everything works as intended and as asked. I will then grade your work.
